If they have low profile tires and want to protect their rims better they would want to use more ect ect ect. If they want better fuel eco they want more. If they want a more responsive ride they could try using more. If someone wants more ride comfort they could achieve that by using less psi. There are far too many variables and its' also a personal preference thing. There is no exact "perfect" tire pressure everyone should be using. I've tried running 40 psi (for improved fuel economy since I drive an average of 500 miles a week) and it wore out the center of the tire prematurely so that didn't work out so well.
SUMMER PERFORMANCE TIRES IN COLD WEATHER FEEL WOBBLY TRIAL
I use around 35 psi in both my Winter and Summer tires which I have found works well for me after some trial and error. If you are going to be driving through the mountains some and there is a good chance of driving through snow, I would switch to an all season tire at the very least and compromise or buy an extra set of wheels and Winter tires and switch to them before making these mountain pass trips.įlat spots rarely occur on vehicles that are daily driven or driven at least a few times a week, so unless you're storing your car for long periods of time, you don't need to worry about it. Last March we had a late snow storm and I could barely get the car home and the car was nearly immobilized just driving down city streets. I would not want to be caught dead in snowy mountains on Summer tires.

Now if there is a chance you are going to occasionally see some snow then you are taking on quite a bit more risk because Summer tires absolutely suck in snow. Be aware that less grip will be available if it is 40 degrees out as opposed to 80 or 90. No problem at all In fact if I drive "normal" I notice no difference in the way the car drives. It was in the high 20's this morning as I drove to meet a client 50 miles away. I'm just about ready to make the switch over (usually do it around Thanksgiving) however I still have my BFG Sport Comp 2 Summer tires on right now. I live in Central IL and use Summer tires 9 or so months of the year and the other 3 I switch to Winter tires. If I was in your shoes, in Central California, seeing temps bottom out at 40 or so I would use Summer tires year around.
